"Santa Ynez Tree Line" - Oil - 12" x 16" - SOLD

This was the last painting of my terrific southwest trip. The pattern of the trees and their rich color were worth the effort of standing in the wind and holding the easel down. The next morning, we heard about the San Diego county fires as we drove north toward home. It's sad to think about how that landscape has changed.

I carefully timed my painting session for this wonderful light as the evening sun lit the formations at Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. The wind wasn't as fierce as yesterday, but I still took shelter beside the car.
