"Dairy Farm Near Ferndale"

"Dairy Farm Near Ferndale" - Oil - 12" x 16" - $260

Sitting below my vantage point, these barns and the buildings beyond them offered pattern and color in the lush pastureland near Ferndale, on the coast in northern California. The colors and direction of the clouds added to the composition admirably.

"Autumn Glow, Bishop, California"

Exhibition Painting
"Autumn Glow, Bishop, California" - Oil - 20" x 24" - SOLD

Every once in a while, I start a painting and it goes so well - start to finish - that I really don't clearly remember painting it. It's as if some other force, a greater hand, takes over and guides my inept digits. I'm not alone in this conviction, I know, since other artists have documented the experience, as well. In my mind, this lifts art from its mean environment to a glorious, spiritual level and I feel I have a small part in God's work.

"Shadows on Lupine"

"Shadows on Lupine" - Oil - 16" x 20" - SOLD

Such a typical California scene! Lupine color is more intense in shadow and I used the color and shadow pattern to create the composition. It was a good (painting) day.

"White in Shadow"

"White in Shadow" - Oil - 12" x 16" - SOLD

The shadow side of this white house and fence made a perfect foil for the oleander blooms caught by sunlight that grazed the shrub. The morning light played against the cooler shadows.

"Flowers from Heather"

"Flowers from Heather" - Oil - 14" x 11" - SOLD

Almost yearly, I paint a portrait of flowers sent by my children on Mother's Day. They always know I'll love that rememberance. For this bouquet, I set it in cool light beside my studio window and I think the resulting harmony is successful. Thanks, Heather!

"Sunset Mirror"

"Sunset Mirror" - Oil - 24" x 20" - Exhibition Painting - $2400

Try as I might, I could not make this image show this painting as it really is. The color combination is unusual and harmonious, not garish. Dashes of color make this work lively and rewarding. It's one that went right from the first to last stroke... something that happens only rarely for any artist!

"Forgotten"

"Forgotten" - Oil - 20" x 16" - $325

I had just completed a large commissioned painting of a floral subject when we left for a few days. When I returned, the bouquet was shriveled, but had a different kind of harmony that appealed to me. Softer in color than my computer monitor shows, the painting has a slightly somber mood, more restful than sad.

"Spring Farm"

"Spring Farm" - Oil - 11" x 14" - $225

When we visited our son in Oregon City, Oregon, earlier this spring, I found this great barn and accompanying silo and sheds. The early leaves caught the clear light and created a shimmer. I painted as my son and husband worked on the airplane my son is building at Linhart's airfield, a friendly place that takes you back to a better time.

"River Color"

"River Color" - Oil - 11" x 14" - $225

"It's a good feeling to "rescue" a painting. I found this one in my wet painting storage box, long forgotten after an autumn afternoon of painting on location. It didn't really please me, but I saw a few areas that had promise. With color adjustments and calligraphy, the scene improved rapidly. I added accents in strategic places and it evolved into a nice piece." -- SG

"Laguna Park Foliage"

"Laguna Park Foliage" - Oil - 11" x 14" - SOLD
"In Laguna Beach, a breathtakingly beautiful park stretches along the coastline. It is used by all, walking, jogging, giving their dogs an outing, meeting friends, or even painting. The landscaping is in keeping with the semi-tropical setting and has wonderful texture and color.

I painted this a week after the San Luis Obispo Plein Air Painting Festival, using a stamped-but-not-used canvas." - SG
